Norway in a Land Rover

In 2019 my wife and I realised that 2020 would not be a regular family holiday. Both kids would be living away from home, studying, whilst she would be in her final year on a Masters' Degree course with no summer break. 2020 would be the year I could do the solo driving trip I'd always wanted to do.

We live in the UK and in previous years had driven to Czech Republic, France, Italy and Germany on many occasions. Norway has the famous Trollstigen mountain road, a shortcut through the mountains. Work started in 1928 and the road was officially opened in 1936. In tourist season the route sees around 2,500 vehicles a day. In winter however, the road is far more dangerous because of ice on the 11 hairpin bends. I wanted to drive the road in winter, just before is closed, so I could have the best chance of photographing the landscape in snow. This became the central reason for the road trip. Everything else would simply be getting there, or getting back.
